Thank You,

May 26th, 2004

Thank you Phish, for making everything in life so much more unique.

Like many others, yesterday was a bittersweet day for me. For almost half of my life, my schedule has revolved around where and when I could catch the next Phish concert. Though in very recent years, the shows have been fewer and farther between, the sudden announcement from Trey, that it is over after Summer Tour, took me by surprise.

I'm not upset about it though. I've been lucky enough to see well over 100 Phish Concerts in about twenty states. Without a doubt, I can thank Phish for the majority of amazing life experiences I've had. Many average people would look at that track record and think I am crazy, or silly. But they don't have a clue.

Thousand of Phish fans, like myself, have felt the same joy time and time again. And even thousands more have been so inspired by the amazing music, that they have gone out on their own, and found ways to express themselves, in the shadow of this great inspiration.

I never thought that Phish as a working band would ever throw in the towel. But now that it happened, there's nothing I can do but rejoice on what they've done, and look to the future.

I am sure that the upcoming summer tour will be amazing, and that the farewell festival in Vermont will be unreal. Good for Phish, to respect their fans enough to end things with pride. Many other bands would not give such advance notice. Additionally, they made sure that the announcement was made after all of the hard-core fans got their summer tour tickets, minimizing the bandwagon effect which could have flooded these final shows with the curious onlookers who want to say that they've been to "a Phish show."

Please don't be mad at Trey. He has always been the leader of the band, which makes it appropriate for him to address the fans with this news. One of the great things about Phish is that they have never been satisfied. This could not have been an easy decision to make, but everyone in life, has to do what they know in their heart is the right thing, and Phish are no different.
